Senators Can't Finish Off Sweep
The Harrisburg Senators banged out nine hits, but it wasn't enough as the Bowie Baysox won it's only game of the series with a 6-4 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Prince George's Stadium in Maryland.
Michael Taylor (2-for-3, three runs, two walks, SB) launched his 21st home run of the season as part of a big day. The solo blast tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning. Taylor then scored in the fifth inning on a Kevin Keyes RBI single to afford the Senators with a 2-1 lead.
However, Bowie scored two runs in the fifth against John Simms (4.2 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 4 K) to retake the lead. The Baysox would add three more in the sixth against Senators' reliever Colin Bates to open up a 6-2 advantage. The Senators responded by loading the bases with no outs in the seventh inning, but scored only two runs as Taylor came home on a wild pitch and Drew Vettleson (2-for-4, RBI) hit a sacrifice fly. Jason Martinson (2-for-3, double) was one of seven Senators to record a hit.
Bryan Harper fired two innings of scoreless relief to keep the Senators close, but Harrisburg could not come up with a comeback for the second day in a row.
The Senators return home tomorrow night to start at four-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Zach Kroenke will take the hill for Harrisburg against New Hampshire's Daniel Norris in a 7:00 p.m. start.
