Wisconsin Timber Rattlers announce 2015 roster

April 6, 2015

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers have announced a tentative roster for Wisconsin's 2015 Midwest League season. Timber Rattlers fans will get to see several Brewers prospects and 2014 draft picks at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium as the team tries to return to the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

Three of the top 50 players taken in the 2014 Major League Baseball Entry Draft will be Timber Rattlers in 2015. Pitcher Kodi Medeiros (1st round, 12th overall pick), infielder Jake Gatewood (Competitive Balance Round A, 41st overall pick), and outfielder Monte Harrison (2nd round, 50th overall pick) were the first three picks of the Brewer last year.

In all, eleven players from Milwaukee's 2014 draft class will join the Timber Rattlers in 2015. The eight other 2014 Brewers' draft picks to start the season in Wisconsin are: Pitcher Cy Sneed (3rd round), infielder Dustin DeMuth (5th round), pitcher David Burkhalter (6th round), catcher Greg McCall (9th round), pitcher Luke Curtis (18th round), pitcher Zach Hirsch (19th round), pitcher Brock Hudgens (31st round), and catcher Carlos Leal (34th round).

MLB Pipeline rates four of the players on Wisconsin's roster as Top 30 prospects in Milwaukee's system. Harrison checks in at #3 and is followed by Gatewood (#5), Medeiros (#9), and first baseman David Denson (#21).

Baseball America's 2015 Prospect Handbook places three Timber Rattlers on their list of Top 30 Brewers Prospects. Harrison is the highest rated Rattler at #4. Medeiros (#11) and Gatewood (#17) also made Baseball America's list.

Seven of the 2015 Rattlers were part of the 2014 team that qualified for the Midwest League playoffs. Curtis, DeMuth, and Denson return along with pitchers Victor Diaz, Tyler Linehan, and Harvey Martin, and outfielder Jose Pena.

Wisconsin native Josh Uhen has made the 2015 Rattlers. Uhen, a native of Oshkosh and graduate of Oshkosh North High School, was selected in the 5th round of the 2013 draft by the Brewers out of UW-Milwaukee.

Other players on the roster include seven who played for Helena - Milwaukee's Pioneer League affiliate - and five who played for Milwaukee's Arizona League affiliate last season. Pitcher Luis Ortega, catcher Natanael Mejia, infielders Luis Aviles, Greg Munoz, and Tucker Neuhaus, and outfielders Brandon Diaz and Elvis Rubio all played for Helena in 2014. Rubio also spent time in the Arizona League with pitchers Milton Gomez, Gian Rizzo, Orlando Torrez, and Angel Ventura.

There are 28 players on this roster. There will need to be three moves before the season begins on the road at Burlington, Iowa on Thursday, April 9 at 6:30pm to get to the league's 25-player roster limit.

Manager Matt Erickson returns for his fifth season as the manager of the Timber Rattlers. Erickson, who managed the team to the 2012 MWL Pennant, is 276-276 in his first four regular seasons with Wisconsin. His 2015 staff includes new pitching coach Gary Lucas, new coach Liu Rodriguez, and new strength and conditioning coach Steve Timmers along returning staff members hitting coach Chuckie Caufield and athletic trainer Jeff Paxson.

The first opportunity for fans to meet the 2015 edition of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers is Tuesday, April 7. That is the date of FanFest, a free, Open House event at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium from noon until 5:00 pm. There will be an on-field practice and a five inning scrimmage - weather permitting - along with tours and autograph opportunities during FanFest.
