Guerrero earns SAL Pitcher of the Week

Left-hander coming off career-high 11 strikeouts over 6 IP

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (April 20, 2015) - The South Atlantic League has named Kannapolis Intimidators left-handed pitcher Jordan Guerrero the Pitcher of the Week for the first week of the 2015 season (April 9-19). The Chicago White Sox prospect went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/12.0 IP) with 17 strikeouts and two walks over his first two starts of the campaign. This is the first such award for Guerrero, who toed the rubber as the Intimidators' Opening Day starter on April 9.

Guerrero, 20, has not allowed a run over 12.0 innings of work, including starts at Lakewood on April 9 and at Delmarva on April 15. The Moorpark, Calif., native has tossed a career-high 6.0 innings in each of his first two starts of the year and is coming off a career-best 11 strikeouts in his win over the Shorebirds in the second game of last Wednesday's doubleheader.

After two starts, Guerrero leads the South Atlantic League in ERA and ranks tied for first in the league (and tied for 14th in all of Minor League Baseball) with 17 strikeouts while also leading the league in WHIP (0.50) and ranking third in average (.111).  

The White Sox selected Guerrero in the 15th round of the June 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Moorpark (Calif.) High School. He spent last season with Kannapolis, primarily working out of the bullpen before moving into the rotation late in the season. He is the first Intimidators arm to earn SAL Pitcher of the Week since LHP Andre Wheeler took home the plaudit Aug. 11-18, 2014. He is the first Intimidators pitcher to earn Pitcher of the Week honors for the first week of the season since Jake Petricka in April of 2011. 

Guerrero is scheduled to start next on Wednesday. The Intimidators are currently in the middle of their first home stand of the 2015 season with the next game tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the West Virginia Power (A, Pirates).
