Curley promoted to Double-A Birmingham

Intimidators 3B hit .286 in Southern League with Barons in 2014

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 7, 2015) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have promoted third baseman Chris Curley to the Double-A Birmingham Barons. In a corresponding move, the White Sox have transferred Ryan Leonards to join the Intimidators from Extended Spring Training.  

Curley, 27, hit .278 (23-78) with five home runs and 21 RBI in 25 games with Kannapolis to open the 2015 season. He ranks second in the South Atlantic League in extra-base hits (15), tied for second in RBI and doubles (10), third in total bases (52), tied for fourth in home runs, and fifth in slugging percentage (.536). Curley spent the 2014 season with Birmingham, batting .286 with five home runs and 53 RBI in 131 games in the Southern League. He spent the 2013 season with the Winston-Salem Dash, winning Carolina League MVP. The former Campbellsville University standout won 2009 Mid-South Conference Player of the Year before beginning his professional career that summer in the Braves organization. Curley signed with the White Sox in March after spending the spring with the Angels, who selected Curley in the Rule 5 draft.

Leonards, 23, rejoins the Intimidators after spending 48 games with Kannapolis in 2014. The former University of Louisiana Lafayette product made his professional debut last season, batting .256 with two home runs and 18 RBI in 57 games between Advanced Rooke Great Falls and Kannapolis, including a .239 average (39-163) in the South Atlantic League. The White Sox selected Leonards in the 21st round of the June 2014 First-Year Player Draft. 

The Intimidators continue a 3-game road series on Thursday night against the West Virginia Power at Appalachian Power Park at 7:05 p.m. The team returns to Kannapolis on Thursday, May 14, to open a 4-game home stand against the Lakewood BlueClaws.
