Delmonico promoted straight to Barons

Almonte rejoins Kannapolis after sterling High-A debut
June 25, 2015

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 25, 2015) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have made four roster moves prior to the start of the Second Half of the 2015 season. Infielder Nick Delmonico has been promoted directly to the Double-A Birmingham Barons. In a corresponding move, outfielder Michael Danner has been activated off the disabled list. The White Sox have also transferred right-handed pitcher Yency Almonte from Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem to Kannapolis, and the Intimidators have sent right-handed pitcher Euclides Leyer back to the Dash. The roster is currently at the league-limit 25 players.

Delmonico, 23, appeared in five games with Kannapolis, batting .400 (8-20) with a double, a triple, a home run, and eight RBI. The former Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers prospect was signed by the White Sox in February after batting .262 (37-141) with eight doubles, four home runs, and 15 RBI in 37 games last season for the Class A-Advanced Brevard County Manatees in the Milwaukee organization. Originally a sixth round pick of the Orioles in the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft, Delmonico spent the 2012 season in the South Atlantic League with Delmarva, batting .249 (84-338) with 11 home runs and 54 RBI in 95 games while being named to the league's midseason All-Star Team. Delmonico entered the 2013 season rated by Baseball America as the No. 4 Prospect in the Baltimore organization and was traded to Milwaukee on July 23, 2013, for Francisco Rodriguez.

Danner, 23, has appeared in 16 games for Kannapolis in 2015, batting .231 (19-52) with seven doubles, six RBI, and seven runs scored. The White Sox selected Danner in the 34th round of the June 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Tampa. Last season in his professional debut, Danner hit .229 (22-96) with two doubles, three triples, and 11 RBI in 27 games between the Arizona League White Sox and Class A Kannapolis.

Almonte, 20, is 5-3 with a 4.50 ERA in 11 games (10 starts) for the Intimidators this season. He made one relief appearance for the Dash, tossing 7.0 strong innings in the resumption of a suspended game last Saturday, giving up just two unearned runs on four hits while striking out three and walking none to earn the win in his Class A-Advanced debut. The White Sox acquired Almonte from the Angels in February as the PTBNL in the Gordon Beckham deal.

Leyer, 24, did not appear in a game with Kannapolis this season. He opened 2015 with Winston-Salem, going 1-3 with a 4.53 ERA in 34 games out of the bullpen. He spent all of last season with the Dash after serving his first year of full-season ball with Kannapolis in 2013.
