I's can't recover after Martinez's early exit

Polanco allows two hits and hold I's scoreless through 8

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 27, 2015)- The Asheville Tourists used eight innings of two-hit ball by starter Carlos Polanco to beat the Intimidators, 4-0, Saturday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System.

Carlos Polanco matched a career-high by going 8.0 innings, allowing no runs, two hits while walking one and striking out eight.

Ryan Leonards was the only intimidator to reach base on Polanco, going 2-for-2 with a walk.

Asheville took a 3-0 lead in the second inning off Intimidators' starter Luis Martinez (2-7) who walked three straight with bases loaded before being pulled from the game. Martinez lasted just 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on two hits while walking five and striking out one.

In the fourth inning, the Tourists added their only run of Jose Brito, to make it 4-0. Forrest Wall reached second on a two-out double. Shane Hoelscher then doubled down the right-field line, scoring Wall.

Brito worked as season-high 5 and 1/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on four hits while walking one and striking out one.

Jacob Morris worked the final two innings for Kannapolis, allowing no run, no hits and two walk.

Shane Halley secured the Asheville win by working the final inning, allowing no runs, one hit, while striking out two.

The Intimidators and Tourists continue their 5-game series Sunday starting at 5:05 p.m. at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Yency Almonte (5-3, 4.50) makes his first start since working 7.0 innings of relief in a win, with Advanced 'A' Winston-Salem Dash. Almonte will face Asheville's Sam Howard (2-8, 4.91).
