July 5, 2015

AUGUSTA, Ga. (July 5, 2015) - The Augusta GreenJackets scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning, and Kannapolis could not recover in a 7-3 loss on Sunday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The Intimidators (4-7 Second Half, 39-41) managed one hit after the third inning.

GreenJackets starter Mark Reyes, who entered the game with the South Atlantic League's lowest ERA, tossed 6.0 innings, limiting Kannapolis to three runs (two earned) on eight hits - none of which came after the third. Reyes (4-3) struck out six and walked two en route to earning the win. His ERA is now 1.57, still tops in the league.

Augusta overcame an early 2-0 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the second. Kannapolis committed a pair of errors to aid the rally. Down 2-1, the GreenJackets overtook the Intimidators with one out in the inning when Brennan Metzger singled to center field, scoring Andrew Cain, and Jared Deacon also came home on the play after a wild throw from the outfield by Louie Lechich. Johneshwy Fargas broke the game open with a 2-run double for a 5-2 lead, and he scored on a Jeremy Sy base hit to cap the inning.

Intimidators starter Zach Thompson (2-3) took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits - all in the second inning. The White Sox fifth round pick from the June 2014 First-Year Player Draft finished with four strikeouts and a walk.

After David Trexler spun the third and fourth innings, Connor Walsh took over on the mound and matched the longest outing of his career. Walsh tossed 3.0 scoreless, hitless innings from the fifth through seventh. He limited the GreenJackets to two walks while striking out two batters. Jacob Morris worked a scoreless eighth for Kannapolis.

John Ziznewski drove in two runs for the Intimidators, matching his career-high. The 2014 Northeast Conference Player of the Year at Long Island University, Ziznewski finished 1-4 with a run scored.

Eddy Alvarez, an Olympic silver medalist in the 5000-meter short-track speed-skating relay at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, collected hits in his first two at-bats, finishing the game 3-for-5 with his team-leading 37th stolen base.

Kannapolis continues this season-long nine-game road trip with game three of four against the GreenJackets on Monday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Spencer Adams (4-4, 3.90 ERA) takes the mound for the Intimidators against Augusta's RHP Sam Coonrod (5-2, 2.63 ERA). The Intimidators return home on Tuesday, July 14, for a seven-game home stand against Hagerstown and Lakewood.
