July 12, 2015

CHARLESTON, S.C. (July 12, 2015) - For the second time in three games, Kannapolis scored double-digit runs to beat the RiverDogs, 12-2, on Sunday evening at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Ballpark. Kannapolis (9-9 Second Half, 44-43) secured its sixth consecutive road series win, taking three of five games in Charleston.

Kannapolis scored three runs in the first inning, five in the fourth, and four more in the ninth. Eight of nine Intimidators starting batters hit safely with Brett Austin leading the way going 2-5 with three RBI, a double, and a run scored.

Spencer Adams (6-4) earned the win, tossing 5 and 2/3 innings limiting the RiverDogs to a run on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks. The White Sox second round pick from the June 2014 First-Year Player Draft, Adams tossed perfect first, second, and fourth innings. Connor Walsh spun 2 and 2/3 relief frames, giving up a run while striking out four and walking two, and Kelvis Valerio recorded the final two outs to finish the game.

Offensively, Kannapolis pounded out 14 hits in the win. In the first inning, Alexander Simon doubled to score Eddy Alvarez for the game's first run. Mason Robbins scored on a wild pitch, and Simon crossed the plate on a Nick Basto sac-fly for a 3-0 lead.

Kannapolis broke the game open in the fourth inning, chasing RiverDogs starter Matt Wotherspoon from the game. Basto and Austin led off the frame with back-to-back doubles for a 4-0 lead. Ethan Grossed added an RBI-grounder that RiverDogs second baseman Ryan Lindemuth misplayed to allow another run in for a 6-0 advantage. Mason Robbins and Louie Lechich added RBI-singles to cap the inning and end the day for Wotherspoon (2-1), who took the loss, giving up eight runs (five earned) on seven hits in 3 and 2/3 innings.

Austin and Michael Danner each added a two-run single in the ninth.

Kannapolis returns to Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System on Tuesday, July 14, for a seven-game home stand beginning with a three-game series against the Lakewood BlueClaws (Phillies). RHP Yelmison Peralta (2-7, 6.68 ERA) is slated to start the series opener for the Intimidators.
