Intimidators edged by Augusta in 17 innings

June 1, 2016

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 1, 2016) - The Intimidators overcame an early 4-0 deficit and battled the GreenJackets into the 17th inning before Augusta claimed a 6-5 win in a game that began Tuesday night and ended early Wednesday morning at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (20-32) used a season-high seven pitchers in a game that lasted 5:26, the second-longest game on record in Intimidators history.

With the game tied 5-5 in the 17th, Augusta's Jean Angomas hit a 1-out double off reliever Yelmison Peralta, and Matt Pare drove him home with a base hit for the game's first run since the eighth inning. GreenJackets first baseman Skyler Ewing made his professional pitching debut in the bottom of the 17th and worked around a leadoff double for the save (1). Ewing, who went 1-for-6 with a run scored, finished with a scoreless inning pitched and two strikeouts. Ryan Koziol (3-2) earned the win while Peralta (0-2) suffered the loss.

Tyler Sullivan matched his career-high with four hits, all coming before the game reached extra innings. The centerfielder started 4-for-4 before drawing intentional walks in two of his next five plate appearances, finishing the game 4-for-7 at the plate.

The 17-inning affair surpassed the Intimidators previous long game of 2016, a 16-inning contest on April 18 at West Virginia that took 5:01 to complete. The Intimidators had not play a game that went at least 17 innings since Sept. 7, 2005 when the team played 21 innings against Charleston (S.C.) in the South Atlantic League playoffs in a game that took 5:09 to play. The team's longest game on record by time lasted 5:50 in a loss to Delmarva on May 20, 2005.

The Intimidators wrap up this 3-game series against the GreenJackets on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. with Weenie Wednesday at the ballpark featuring $1 hot dogs all game long presented by Nathan's Famous.  For tickets and promotional information, call the F&M Bank Box Office or visit IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
