White Sox release relief pitcher Mendonca in corresponding move
August 8, 2016

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (Aug. 8, 2016) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have made two roster moves before Monday's game against the Hagerstown Suns. The Intimidators have received right-handed pitcher Danny Dopico from the AZL White Sox. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Tanner Mendonca has been released. The roster is at 25.

Dopico, 23, is in his first full-season with the White Sox after being drafted in the 11th round of the June 2015 First-Year Player Draft. This season, he is 0-3 with a 6.87 ERA (29 ER/38.0 IP) and 51 strikeouts in 31 games between the Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem Dash and AZL White Sox. Dopico made his professional debut in 2015 with Advanced Rookie Great Falls, going 2-3 with a 4.37 ERA with 56 strikeouts in 35 innings. Last season, he ranked fourth in the Pioneer League and tied for seventh among White Sox organizational leaders in saves (7) with the Voyagers while averaging 14.4 strikeouts/9.0 IP (56 SO/35.0 IP). The White Sox drafted Dopico out of Florida International where he was named Second-Team All-CUSA in 2015.

Mendonca, 24, went 1-1 with a 4.30 ERA (11 ER/23.0 IP) in 17 games for the Intimidators in 2016. Originally drafted by Minnesota in the 17th round of the June 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Sacramento State, Mendonca was signed by the White Sox in June of 2014.

The Intimidators open a 3-game series in Hagerstown on Monday at 7:05 p.m. as Kannapolis sends RHP Jimmy Lambert (0-1, 1.98 ERA), the White Sox fifth round pick from this June's draft, to the mound in the series opener. The Intimidators returns home on Thursday, August 11, for a 4-game home stand against the Lakewood BlueClaws featuring Disney Vacation Giveaway Night on Saturday, August 13, with post-game fireworks. That night, one lucky fan will win a $2,500 vacation to Walt DisneyWorld.   For tickets and promotional information, call the F&M Bank Box Office or 704-932-3267 or visit IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
