Daily extends hit streak to 13 as Rome wins

Easterling spins 5.0 scoreless innings, lowering SAL-best ERA
August 25, 2016

ROME, Ga. (August 25, 2016) - Cody Daily extended his career-best hitting streak to 13 games, but the Intimidators fell in extra-inning, 2-1 in 10 innings, to the Rome Braves on Thursday at State Mutual Stadium. Kannapolis (30-30 Second Half, 54-76) dropped its fifth straight game while Rome won its eighth in a row to complete the 3-game series sweep.

The Intimidators led 1-0 until Rome tied the game in the eighth off Jack Charleston. Tyler Neslony led off the inning with a base hit and stole second base. An error by Grant Massey gave Rome an extra out, and Kevin Josephina capitalized with a 2-out RBI-single to plate Neslony to tie the game.

In the top of the 10th, Alex Call was hit by a pitch to reach base with one out, and Seby Zavala followed with a base hit. Danny Mendick's flyout to right field moved the runners into scoring position, but Devan Watts struck out Bradley Strong to end the inning, stranding the runners.

In the bottom of the 10th, Anfernee Seymour drew a 1-out walk and stole second base. Dylan Barrow tried to pick off Seymour at second base, but the ball trickled past Strong and into centerfield, allowing the winning run to move to third base. Ray-Patrick Didder drove in Seymour on a game-winning sacrifice-fly.

Daily singled in the fifth inning, his 13th straight game with a hit dating back to August 12.

Brannon Easterling spun 5.0 scoreless innings on short rest to lower his ERA to 2.07, the best in the South Atlantic League. He worked around two hits while striking out one in a no decision. Michael Horejsei took over in the sixth and struck out three over 2.0 scoreless frames.

Kannapolis snatched a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning off Braves starter Touki Toussaint. Bradley Strong and Cody Daily opened the frame with base hits, and two batters later, Jake Fincher singled up the middle to cash Strong for a 1-0 lead.

Watts (2-1) earned the win with 2.0 scoreless innings while Barrow (3-3) suffered the loss for Kannapolis.

The Intimidators return home on Friday for the final three home games of the 2016 regular season against the new Columbia Fireflies (NY Mets). White Sox second round pick RHP Alec Hansen will make his Class A debut on the mound for Kannapolis on Friday against Columbia's RHP Nabil Crismatt (1-1, 1.25 ERA).
