Barons Bring Home Organization of the Year

Nelson Named Executive of the Year by Southern League
September 13, 2016

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Birmingham Barons have been named the Don Mincher Organization of the Year by the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs. In addition, Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson has been named the Jimmy Bragan Executive of the Year.

Both the Barons and Nelson were previously recognized by the Southern League as organization and executive of the year following the 2013 season.

"We're honored and humbled to be recognized by our peers in the Southern League," the Logan family said in a statement. "This award is a testament to our front office staff as well as the entire Birmingham community."

Since a move back to downtown Birmingham from Hoover a few seasons ago, the Birmingham Barons continue to provide one of the finest experiences in all Minor League Baseball year in and out, resulting in the 2016 Don Mincher Organization of the Year. Regions Field has become the top downtown option in the area over spring and summertime; due in large part to a world-class ballpark and creative promotional schedule, the Barons have paced the League in attendance each of the last four seasons, including 418,361 this season.

The Barons continue to set the bar in attracting area residents to the downtown area with incredible fireworks and Thirsty Thursday attendance figures, thereby identifying Regions Field as a vital cog in the community. As the Don Mincher Organization of the Year, the Barons will be nominated for the John H. Johnson Presidential Trophy as awarded by Minor League Baseball.

"First, it is quite the honor for us to be recognized as the Don Mincher Southern League Organization of the Year. In addition, I am truly thankful and humbled to be recognized as the 2016 Jimmy Bragan Executive of the Year Award. Both of these awards are named after incredible men who accomplished so much in not only the Southern League, but the game of baseball," Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said.

"These two awards are truly reflective of the great people that we have at Regions Field - both the game day and front office staffs of the Barons and Parkview Catering. We thank our great Southern League colleagues for this recognition, especially everyone who visits Regions Field each year. I personally want to thank the Logan family for allowing me to live the dream in my capacity as Barons General Manager and also I want to thank my mother and father as well as my wife, Christy, and our children; Jonathan Jr. and Sophia, for their continued love and support."
