Biscuits Display Potent Offense In 14-7 Win Over Barons

Miguel Gonzalez finishes 3-for-3 as Barons drop second-straight in Montgomery
April 6, 2014

The Montgomery Biscuits scored nine runs over the first three innings Saturday en route to a 14-7 win over the Birmingham Barons at Riverwalk Stadium.

The Barons, as they'd done in the opening two games of the series, jumped ahead early scoring three runs in the first on RBI hits by Christian Marrero and Josh Richmond. However, the lead would be short lived as the Biscuits pounced on Barons' starter Scott Snodgress (0-1, 36.00) for five runs in the first highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Alejandro Segovia.

The Barons fought back to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the second chasing Montgomery starter Jared Mortensen from the game after just 1.1 IP. However, the Biscuits scored another run in the bottom half on an RBI double by Curt Casali to retake the lead at 6-5. Three runs in the bottom of the third finally chased Snodgress from the game after surrendering eight runs on seven hits over just 2.0 IP.

Biscuits reliever Andrew Bellati (1-0, 1.93) replaced Mortensen and held the Barons at bay, allowing a run on five hits over the next 3.2 innings as Montgomery built an 11-6 advantage en route to a decisive 14-7 win.

Miguel Gonzalez finished 3-for-3 on the night with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI while Micah Johnson continued his hot start to the season going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and his first steal of the season. Through three games, Johnson is hitting .462.

The Barons will look to snap a two-game losing skid Sunday afternoon as RHP Nick McCully makes his first start of the season for the Barons against RHP Mike Colla. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM CDT.
