Late Inning Run Propels Blue Wahoos Over Barons 5-4

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Former Barons catcher Adrian Nieto drove home last night's hero Alex Blandino on a RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to push Pensacola to a 5-4 win Thursday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

The Barons got on the scoreboard first thanks to a solo home run by designated hitter Nick Basto which put the Barons out in front 1-0 in the top of the first inning. The Blue Wahoos would answer in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI ground out by Tyler Goeddel which scored Adrian Nieto to tie the game at 1-1. Josh VanMeter put Pensacola out in front 2-1 later in the inning on an RBI single that brought home Leon Landry. The Blue Wahoos would extend their lead to 4-1 courtesy of an Aristides Aquino two-run homer that scored Eric Jagielo in the bottom of the fourth. 
Birmingham starter Spencer Adams was chased out of the game after allowing four earned runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings of work while striking out two. Scott Snodgress made his first appearance as a Baron since July 26, 2014 pitching 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit and striking out two. 
The Barons would chip away at the Pensacola lead and eventually tie the game. Jake Peter drove home Eddy Alvarez on a double to right field in the top of the fifth to make it a 4-2 game. The Barons would then tie the game in the seventh inning at 4-4 thanks to a pair of RBI singles by Nick Basto and Mason Robbins which scored Eddy Alvarez and Jake Peter respectively. 
Reliever Ian Hamilton ran into trouble in the bottom of the eighth inning after getting the first two outs of the inning. Alex Blandino ripped a double to left field to put the lead run on base and then Adrian Nieto delivered the clutch two-out RBI single bringing home the lead run making it 5-4 Pensacola. 
Blue Wahoos reliever Jimmy Herget picked up his first win of the season tossing two scoreless innings while striking out three Barons. Ian Hamilton suffered his first of the season with Birmingham. 
The Barons and the Blue Wahoos will wrap up their series tomorrow night in Pensacola with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. RHP Thaddius Lowry (2-1, 6.06) will get the start for the Barons while fellow right-hander Deck McGuire (1-2, 4.01) will be on the mound for the Blue Wahoos.
