June 23, 2014

The Birmingham Barons picked up a 5-1 win in their series finale against the Jacksonville Suns Monday afternoon in front of 2,389 fans at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Starter Scott Snodgress (4-6, 4.25) came through with his best start of the season to date, allowing just three hits over 7.0 shutout innings while striking out two and walking three.

After being blanked in their previous game on Saturday, the Barons came out swinging against Suns starter Jose Urena (6-5, 4.37) scoring three runs in the second inning on a solo home run by Kevan Smith and a two-run double by Jeremy Farrell. An RBI groundout by Smith an inning later extended the lead to 4-0. Smith has eight RBI in the first four games since the All-Star break.

Rangel Ravelo finished 2-for-4 on the afternoon with two doubles including one in the fifth that plated the Barons' fifth run of the game. Ravelo leads the Barons with 20 doubles so far this season.

With the win, the Barons improved to 2-2 in the second half and 31-43 on the season while the loss dropped the Suns to 2-2 in the second half and a 38-36 record overall. The Barons return to Regions Field Tuesday to begin a five-game series against the Mississippi Braves. The Barons will send RHP Mike Recchia (2-2, 2.73) to the hill in game one against M-Braves starter RHP Jason Hursh (6-4, 3.48). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
