The Birmingham Barons and the Southern League have announced the LHP Spencer Arroyo has been named Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 15-21.

Arroyo, 24, went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one start last week, allowing four hits and striking out five in 7.0 scoreless innings against the Chattanooga Lookouts. Arroyo has posted a record of 7-4 with a 3.34 ERA (40 ER/107.2 IP) in 19 starts for the Barons this season while leading the Barons in innings pitched and strikeouts (68).

Arroyo was acquired by the White Sox organization as a free agent on April 19th, 2010. In 12 appearances with the Barons last season, Arroyo went 6-4 with 4.59 ERA (35 ER/68.2 IP). Over the past three season, Arroyo has accrued 28 wins, most of any minor leaguer in the White Sox organization over that span.

The Pitcher of the Week award is the second for a Barons' hurler this season as Nick McCully previously won the award for the period of May 20-26. Additionally, Trayce Thompson won the Barons' lone Player of the Week honor for the period of June 10-16.
