Five BayBears Combine to No-Hit Stars

Bradley, Gorgen, Eitel, Paredes, and Barrett Pitch to 2-0 Win
August 14, 2013

HUNTSVILLE, AL - It was a special night at Joe Davis Stadium.

Archie Bradley, Matt Gorgen, Derek Eitel, Willy Paredes, and Jake Barrett combined to throw a no-hitter, and the BayBears downed the Huntsville Stars 2-0 behind two unearned runs. Both runs were scored by Mike Freeman and both were driven in by Ender Inciarte.

Bradley (9-5, 2.00) threw 98 pitches, struck out seven in five innings, and the bullpen took it from there.

Mobile grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd when Inciarte slapped a single to left that scored Freeman from second. They doubled the lead in the top of the 7th when Ender bounced a ball over the head of Huntsville reliever Greg Holle that scored Freeman from third.

The Stars nearly ended the no-hitter and got on the board in the bottom of the 7th when Brock Kjeldgaard sent the first pitch from Derek Eitel to the wall in left, but a howling wind kept the ball in the yard.

Willy Paredes worked a perfect 8th, and Barrett slammed the door shut with a 1-2-3 ninth to preserve the Southern League's second no-hitter of 2013.

Each of the five BayBears pitchers recorded at least one strikeout, and the Stars never got a man past first base after the 1st inning. Mobile is now 27-23 in the second half, and 66-53 overall. They currently sit three games behind Jacksonville for first place in the South division second half standings.

Game three of the five game series in Huntsville will get underway at 6:43 CT on Thursday with Andrew Chafin (9-6, 2.73) on the mound for the BayBears opposite Taylor Jungmann (9-7, 3.72) for the Stars.   The series is currently tied at a game apiece.
