The Chicago White Sox have announced that Julio Viñas, who was originally announced as the Barons manager for the 2018 season, will be away from the team indefinitely for family/personal reasons. Ryan Newman will start the season as the Birmingham Barons manager.

BIRMINGHAM, AL. - The Chicago White Sox have announced that Julio Viñas, who was originally announced as the Barons manager for the 2018 season, will be away from the team indefinitely for family/personal reasons. Ryan Newman will start the season as the Birmingham Barons manager.
Newman, a native of Hayward, CA., enjoyed a three-year Minor League playing career in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Newman is the son of former Major League catcher Jeff Newman, who spent a total of nine-years with the Oakland A's and Boston Red Sox. Newman also previously managed the Barons in 2016, before helming the Arizona League White Sox in 2017.
The Barons open their home season on April 11 at 7:05 p.m. at Regions Field. The ticket office at Regions Field is open Monday - Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
