Brown Dazzles In 3-0 Shutout of Whitecaps

(Eastlake, OH)- Mitch Brown pitched a season high seven shutout innings to help the Captains defeat the Whitecaps by a final of 3-0. Brown (5-8) earned the win after allowing just five hits and one walk. Brown struck out six Whitecaps. The Captains won the series against West Michigan. It was the fourth shutout of the season for the Captains.

Lake County scored a run in the bottom of the first inning when Ivan Castillo led off with a double. Castillo was sacrificed to third base and scored on a ground out by Nellie Rodriguez. The score was 1-0 Captains. Lake County added another run in the bottom of the third inning to add on to their lead. Castillo led off again with a hit, this time a bunt single. Clint Frazier singled him to third and once again Nellie Rodriguez knocked in the run. The single by Rodriguez netted Nellie his 65th RBI of the season.

Lake County added a run on the bottom of the seventh inning. Claudio Bautista singled and moved to third on a single from Castillo. Clint Frazier hit a line drive to deep right field and scoring from third on a sacrifice fly was Bautista and the score was 3-0 Lake County.

Robbie Aviles entered the ballgame in the eighth inning for Lake County. Aviles pitched one inning and surrendered one hit. Trevor Frank pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 11th save of the season.

RHP Matt Davenport (5-3) started game two for West Michigan and took the loss. Davenport pitched six innings and allowed five hits, two earned runs and walked three. Davenport fanned five. Trent Szkutnik pitched two innings of relief and allowed two hits, one earned run and he struck out two.

The Captains will travel to Fort Wayne Indiana on Thursday to open a four game series with the TinCaps. Lake County will start RHP Jordan Milbrath (3-11, 3.40) and Fort Wayne will counter with RHPJimmi Brasoban (2-4, 6.86). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from Parkview Field.
