Captains Smack Ten Hits and Win 6-2

(Eastlake, OH)- The Lake County Captains (31-35) snapped their four game losing streak by defeating the Lansing Lugnuts (26-40) by a final of 6-2 on Thursday Night. Joe Sever, and Eric Haase each had two doubles. Sever had two RBI's Haase added one. LeVon Washington added a solo homer, his first of the season, and the Captains knocked a total of ten hits on the night en route to the four run victory.

Lansing scored first. In the opening half inning, Dalton Pompey doubled to lead off the ballgame. Pompey moved to third base on a wild pitch. He scored on a Sacrifce Fly from Christian Lopes and the score was 1-0 Lugnuts. LeVon Washington hit the second pitch he saw over the walll and the game was tied at 1-1.

In the third inning, Eric Haase singled and motored around the bases on a double from Joe Sever. Haase scored and the score was 2-1 Lake County. The score became 3-1 when Cody Ferrell singled home Sever. The Captains were up a pair headed to the fourth inning.

The Captains added three runs in the fifth inning. Yhoxian Medina walked and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Eric Haase then doubled home Medina and the score was 4-1. Haase came into score on the second double of the night for Sever and the Captains lead grew to 5-1. The final run of the night that was scored by the Captains happened when Joe Sever was at third base with one out in the fifth. Ben White uncorked his fourth wild pitch of the night and Sever touched home plate to make the score 6-1.

Santiago Nessy hit his fifth homerun of the season over the centerfield wall in the top of the seventh inning to pull the Lugnuts within four runs at 6-2. That was the final.

RHP D.J. Brown (3-4) started the game for Lake County and earned the win. Brown pitched five innings, and allowed one earned run on four hits and six strikeouts. Anderson Polanco pitched two and two thirds innings and allowed one earned run on two hits. Polanco walked two and fanned three. Jack Wagoner pitched and inning plus. Wagoner allowed one hit and walked three. Wagoner also hit a batter. Gran Sides entered with the bases loaded, and two outs, in the ninth and struck out Dwight Smith Jr. to earn his seventh save of the season.

RHP Ben White (8-9) started the game for the Lugnuts and took the loss. White pitched four and one third innings and allowed ten hits, six earned runs, two walks and one strikeout. White surrendered the homerun to Washington. Efrain Nieves pitched three and two thirds of scoreless baseball in relief. Nieves did not allow a hit, he walked one and struck out four.

The Captains will remain in Eastlake, OH for the final home game of the season on Friday. Lake County will start RHP Luis Morel (5-5, 4.93) and Lansing will counter with RHP Javier Avendano (8-6, 3.89). First pitch is at 7:00 PM from Classic Park.

Friday's game will be followed by a Fireworks Friday Night presented by Universal Windows Direct. Following the fireworks spectacular, the Captains Friday Night Concert Series concludes with Cleveland's Breakfast Club which is the Ultimate 80's Tribute Band that plays tributes to Journey, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, along with new wave favorites, Metal 101, Party Dance Set and much more. They will perform on-stage adjacent to Castaways Bar.

Friday is also SuperMegaPrizeAthon in conjunction with Groverpalooza, which will be a tribute to the Captains on-field host, Grover. There will be special in-game promotions, music, videos and other special events focused on the legendary antics of Grover. Captains fans will also be bombarded with hundreds of prizes throughout the night.

Friday the first 1,500 adult fans will receive a 16-month Captains Calendar courtesy of Lake Health

Prior to the game on Friday, the second annual Facebook and Twitter softball games will take place. Two teams representing Facebook will square off against each other and two teams representing Twitter will do the same to see who will reign supreme in their respective social media worlds. Gates open at 2:30 PM for the 3 PM softball games and any fan with a ticket for the Captains game that night may attend.
