The Captains will hold tryouts for National Anthem singers at Great Lakes Mall in Mentor on Saturday, February 22, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The tryouts will be part of the "Shop Lake County" show that is presented by the Lake County Chambers of Commerce and the Great Lakes Mall. The show will be taking place on February 22 and 23.
All individuals and groups who are interested in singing "The Star Spangled Banner" prior to a 2014 home game may audition on February 22, including those who have performed in the past. Last year there were over thirty singers/groups that auditioned who were chosen to sing at a Captains game.
Anthem tryouts are available on a first-come, first-served basis during the designated time period. This will serve as the only live audition date prior to the 2014 season. All interested parties will be required to sing a live, a capella version of the national anthem on a microphone at Great Lakes Mall. Tryouts will be held at the WELW stage located in the Dillard's South Concourse of the mall.
Judging will be based on lyrical accuracy, voice quality, presentation, voice projection and overall performance quality. Lyric sheets will not be allowed at the auditions.
Performers who cannot make the tryouts in person but want to be considered for the upcoming season may send a CD or MP3 to Drew LaFollette at the Captains offices. However, performers who audition at the mall will be given priority scheduling for the upcoming season.
The Captains home opener is Friday, April 4 at 6:30 PM as the Captains welcome the Lansing Lugnuts, an affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, to Classic Park.
