Dragons Salvage Series With 6-4 Win

(Eastlake, OH)- Dayton wins the finale of the three game series vs. Lake County by one run the final was 6-4. Dayton scored the game-winning run in the fifth inning. Jeff Gelalich was hit by a pitch and found himself at third base with two outs. A wild pitch allowed him to score. The Dragons salvaged the three game series with the win.

Dayton (17-12) scored first. In the top of the third inning, with one out, Sammy Diaz walked. Carlton Daal singled. Mitch Brown tied to pick off Daal at first base and threw the ball up the right field line. Diaz was at third base and scored on an error. The score was 1-0. Daal came into score on a single by Jamodrick McGruder. The score was 2-0.

Lake County (9-21) took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Claudio Bautista reached on a fielder's choice, and then stole second base. He then went to third when the ball went into center field. Bautista scored on a separate error on the catcher and the score was 2-1. With two outs and two on, Paul Hendrix hit a three-run homer to right center field and the score was 4-2 Captains.

Dayton tied the score in the top of the fourth inning. The first two men of the inning walked. A sac bunt moved both runners up and a wild pitch allowed the first run to score. Carlton Daal then doubled home the second run and the score was even at 4-4.

Dayton scored a run in the ninth inning to extend their lead. With two outs and a runner on third base. A wild pitch, made the score 6-4 that was the final.

RHP Mitch Brown (0-5) started the ballgame for the Captains. Brown pitched four innings, and allowed five hits, five runs, four of which were earned. He walked five and struck out three. Brown tossed one wild pitch and hit one batter. Brown took the loss. Kenny Mathews pitched four and one third innings and allowed one earned run on two hits with two walks. Mathews fanned two.

LHP Amir Garrett (0-0) started for Dayton. Garrett pitched four and one third innings he allowed seven hits, four earned runs, he walked four and fanned four. Garrett allowed the homer to Hendrix. Zach Weiss (2-1) pitched three and two thirds innings and did not allow a run. Weiss earned the win. Alejando Chacin (2) earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Captains will hit the road on Monday and head to West Michigan to open a three game series. The Captains will start RHP Robbie Aviles (0-1, 1.02) and the Whitecaps will counter with RHP Jonathon Crawford (1-1, 3.04)
