Kane County Sweeps 3 Game Series

(Geneva, IL)- The Kane County Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the finishing touches on a rain shortened 6-1 win over the Lake County Captains on Sunday afternoon. Kane County used three hits in the inning all of which were singles to plate the two runs. The game was called after the top of the seventh inning. The Captains have now lost five straight games after the series sweep.

In the top of the first inning, Lake County scored to take the early lead. Cody Ferrell led off with a walk. With two outs, Ferrell swiped second base, and scored on a single from Grant Fink. The Captains led 1-0.

In the bottom of the first inning, Kane County took the lead by scoring three unearned runs. With two outs, and one runner on base, Yasiel Balaguert reached on an E3. That put runners on the corners. A wild pitch scored him and it was 1-1. After a walk, two passed balls and another wild pitch Kane County had the 3-1 lead.

The Cougars added on in the bottom of the fourth inning. Daniel Lockhart reached on a two base error the Captains third of the game. Trey Martin singled home Lockhart and the score was 4-1.

RHP Mitch Brown (0-1) got the start for Lake County. Mitch pitched two and two thirds innings and was replaced after the delay. Mitch pitched two and two thirds of an innings, and allowed three runs, two walks and he struck out two. Brown who celebrated his 20th birthday on Sunday took the loss. Matt Whitehouse entered in relief after the delay. Whitehouse allowed three runs, two were earned on four hits in his three and one thirds innings of relief.

The Cougars RHP Duane Underwood (0-0) started and did not get a decision. Underwood pitched three innings and allowed three hits and one earned run. Justin Amlung (2-0) got the win. Amlung pitched four innings of relief allowing just two hits and striking out five.

The Captains will return home to Eastlake, Ohio on Monday to take on the Peoria Chiefs in game one of a three game series. LHP Luis Lugo (0-1, 9.82) will start for the Captains and the Chiefs will counter with RHP Nick Petree (0-0, 0.00). First Pitch is at 6:30 PM from Classic Park.

Monday is Buck Night and will feature $1 Five Star Brand Hot Dogs, chips, French fries, popcorn, soda and beer and $1 off a box seat ticket.
