Silver Hawks Beat Captains 6-4

(South Bend, IN)- B.J. Lopez singled home George Roberts in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Silver Hawks went on to beat Lake County 6-4. At the time the single made it 5-2. South Bend clinched the three game series with the win. Lake County has dropped their eighth straight ballgame. The Captains are 1-10 on the road.

The Silver Hawks (14-8) scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the 2-0 lead. Joe Munoz singled home a run and the other run scored on a ground out. Lake County halfed the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Anthony Santander singled home Grant Fink and the score was 2-1.

South Bend scored two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to extend the lead. With two outs, Stryker Trahan singled home Andrew Velazquez and the score was 3-1. Chuck Taylor scored on a single from Daniel Palka and the score was 4-1 South Bend.

Lake County (5-17) scored a run in the top of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 4-2. Grant Fink singled home Clint Frazier to cut the lead in half. Trailing 5-2, Lake County added two in the top of the seventh. Anthony Santander and Paul Hendrix reached base on a walk and hit-by-pitch. A wild pitch moved the runners up and a sac fly by Josh McAdams made the score 5-3. The second wild pitch of the inning scored Hendrix and the score was 5-4.

South Bend added insurance in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two outs, Breland Alamadova singled and then scored on an error, the fourth of the night for the Captains. The score was 6-4 that was the final.

RHP Dace Kime (0-4) started the game for the Captains. Kime took the loss. Kime pitched four and two thirds innings and yielded four runs, three runs were earned. Kime walked two and fanned five. Kenny Mathews pitched two thirds of an inning and allowed one unearned run on two hits. Mathews struck out one. Alexis Paredes pitched one and two thirds innings and allowed one hit, and one walk and he fanned two. Trevor Frank pitched the last inning for the Captains and just allowed one hit and the unearned run.

RHP Ben Eckels (1-2) started for South Bend. Eckels did not get the decision. Eckles pitched four and one third innings and allowed six hits, one earned run he walked four and struck out five. The Silver Hawks used five relief pitchers. The win went to Daniel Gibson (2-2). The Save went to JR Bradley for the second night in a row. Bradley now has four saves on the season.

The Captains will stay on the road in South Bend, IN on Sunday to take on the South Bend Silver Hawks in the finale of a three game series. The Captains will start RHP Caleb Hamrick (1-2, 9.56) and South Bend will counter with RHP Aaron Blair (1-1, 3.26). First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM from Four Winds Field.
