Carolina Drops Second Straight 6-3 in Myrtle Beach

Lacy (1-0, 0.00) started for the Pelicans (8-13, 42-49) and struck out six over the first two innings and totaled seven strikeouts overall while earning the victory in his High-A debut. He also allowed just one unearned run on four hits over five and 1/3 innings and had held the Mudcats (12-8, 46-44) scoreless through the fifth before leaving the game with one out in the sixth.
Devin Williams started for Carolina and was able to hold the Pelicans scoreless before reaching his pitch limit with two outs in the third. Williams worked through two and 2/3 no-hit innings with two walks and a strikeout before leaving with 46 pitches thrown (25 strikes). Reliever Alec Kenilvort finished the third with a strikeout, retiring his only batter faced in the game.
Nathan Kirby entered the game in the fourth and began his appearance by hitting Jared Young with a pitch and then walking Wladimir Galindo. Both Young and Galindo went on to score later in the fourth as the Pelicans ralied for two runs and two hits while taking a 2-0 lead in the game.
Kirby (2-5, 5.14) eventually took the loss after allowing three runs and five hits over three innings. He also walked two and struck out two while reaching 55 pitches (37 strikes).
Lacy, meanwhile, left the game with the Pelicans leading 2-0 in the sixth, but reliever Erick Leal would end up allowing an inherited runner score as Carolina cut the lead down to 2-1. The run came across when Weston Wilson reached on a two-out throwing error by shortstop Aramis Ademan, thus making it unearned to Lacy.
The 2-1 deficit did not last long as D.J. Wilson brought in another Myrtle Beach run in the sixth with a run scoring double off Kirby. Wilson's run scoring hit gave the Pelicans a 3-1 lead and came just before reliever Daniel Brown allowed three runs and three hits in the seventh as the Pelicans increased the lead to 6-1.
Brown walked two and allowed three runs and three hits while following Kirby in Wednesday's loss to the Pelicans. Brown pitched through just one inning and was later followed by Nattino Diplan who worked through a scoreless eighth with one hit and one strikeout.
Carolina did rally back with two runs in the eighth off relievers Erick Leal and Jose Paulino, but the two run eighth only cut the lead to 6-3. Paulino (S, 1) went on to finish the game with a scoreless ninth while earning his first save of the season. Leal (H, 4) committed a throwing error that lead to a run in the eighth, but finished with two unearned run allowed on two hits over two innings.
Wilson had a sacrifice fly in Carolina's two run eighth and finished the game 1-for-3 with a RBI. His lone hit of the game came in the second and stretched his hitting streak to 12 straight games. Devin Hairston scored in the sixth and eighth innings and went 2-for-4 while running his hitting streak to eight consecutive games. Segovia also went 2-for-4 and scored once in the loss for the Mudcats.
The Mudcats went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base in the loss. They also fell behind two games to one in the four game set as the Pelicans won their second straight game of the series.
