Carolina (2-2, 36-38) scored all four its runs in the second, with the first coming off the bat of Wilson and his solo home run to left. Wilson's laser homer to left was his team leading eighth of the season and gave the Mudcats the early 1-0 lead on starter Brandon Bailey and the Astros (2-2, 39-34).

The four run fourth continued with a walk of Pat McInerney and then a flare single to right from Ryan Aguilar. Carolina then took a 2-0 lead when Rodriguez came through with a run scoring single to plate McInerney from third. Devin Hairston then singled to load the bases and a double play, grounded into by Joangtel Segovia would score Aguilar to give the Mudcats a 3-0 lead. The rally then came to an end when Bailey (2-8, 3.67) gave up a run scoring single to Carroll that scored Rodriguez to increase the lead to 4-0 after two.
Starter Cam Roegner held that 4-0 advantage through his five inning start and went on to earn the victory. Roegner (7-3, 1.77) scattered eight hits, walked four and allowed two runs while earning the victory.
Relievers Daniel Brown and Luke Barker later followed Roegner and combined to allow just one run over the final four innings while holding and saving the Carolina home win. Brown (2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 SO) earned his third hold and Barker (1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R) picked up his seventh save. Barker (S, 7) induced a 3-6-1 double play to end the game while improving to a perfect seven of seven in save tries this season.
Down 4-0, the Astros went on to rally for a run on two hits in the fourth and fifth while cutting the lead to 4-2. Both runs were allowed in by Roegner, but ended up being the only two he allowed over five innings pitched.
The Astros later pulled within one of Carolina lead on a home run from Ronnie Dawson of Brown in the seventh, but failed to score again as the Mudcats took Sunday's series finale to finish with a series split.
Dawson went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the game. Abraham Toro and Chuckie Robinson also went 2-for-4, while Cody Bohanek went 2-for-3 with a run in the loss for Buies Creek.
Bailey suffered the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits over five innings pitched. He also walked two and struck out five. Brandon Bielak (4 H, 0 R, 2 SO) followed and worked through three scoreless frames while pitching the remainder of the game for the Astros.
With the victory, Carolina finished with a four game split in their away/home series with the Astros. Buies Creek won game one at Jim Perry Stadium on Thursday and game three on Saturday at Five County Stadium. The Mudcats, meanwhile, took game two on Friday in Buies Creek and Sunday's series finale on Sunday.
