CC Squares Series
MIDLAND, TX - Bobby Doran tossed six innings of one-run ball and Max Stassi plated a pair Monday night as the Hooks dispatched Midland 4-1 at Citibank Ballpark.
After getting shutout in the opener, Stassi gave the Hooks a 1-0 lead in the first with a mammoth home run to left field.
Anthony Aliotti continued his hot series with a solo shot to right in the home half. Aliotti now has 12 long balls on the year and seven have come against Corpus Christi (12-12, 54-40).
Doran navigated thru the next four frames thanks to two double plays.
The Hooks gave him a 3-1 advantage in the third. Raoul Torrez placed a perfect bunt down the third-base line for a lead-off hit. Drew Muren was next and ripped a line drive off the glove of a leaping first baseman, Max Muncy, for a double. With runners at second and third and two out, Stassi sent a sac fly to right, scoring Torrez. Preston Tucker chased Muren home on a two-strike single to right.
Muren manufactured Corpus Christi's fourth run in the fifth when he cracked a single to left and stole second. Catcher David Freitas tried to gun him down but the throw took second baseman Tyler Landendorf into the path of the runner. Muren's feet-first slide kicked the ball into shallow right. He popped up immediately and scored from second base.
In the RockHound (10-14, 43-51) sixth, Allioti reached on a one-out single to center. Doran then retired Jake Goebbert via his lone strikeout of the night. A knock by Dusty Coleman and a walk to Muncy loaded the bases for Freitas. Doran (8-2) coaxed a shallow fly ball to end the inning.
Chia-Jen Lo worked a scoreless seventh and retired the lead-off man in the eighth. Patrick Urckfitz set down three of the four men faced before Jorge De Leon got the final out with the tying run at home plate for his fifth save.
The series continues Tuesday night when Ross Season (1-1, 4.05) takes on Drew Granier (2-1, 1.48). First pitch is 6:30.
