Hickory, NC- The Texas Rangers announced today that Hickory Crawdads right-handed pitcher Kyle Cody has been promoted to the Down East Wood Ducks (Class A Advanced).
Cody, 22, has been one of the best starting pitchers in the South Atlantic League ranking in the top 10 in ERA (2.83 - 7th), strikeouts (101-5th) and average against (.218-5th).
A 6th round selection by the Rangers in the 2016 Draft out of University of Kentucky, Cody earned SAL Pitcher of the Week honors for his performance on June 17th (8 IP,0 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 8 K). Since that start, Cody has been dominant, allowing only 4 earned runs on 21 hits in 43.2 innings. He issued just 13 walks and struck out 58 batters in that span, good for a 0.79 WHIP, 0.83 ERA and 12.1 K/9 ratio. The Chippewa Falls, WI native allowed just 4 home runs all season and struck out a career-high 11 batters in his final start with the 'Dads on July 30th.
Cody will join fellow 2017 Crawdads Tyler Ferguson, Jonathan Hernandez, Preston Scott, Yanio Perez, Ti'Quan Forbes, and Carlos Garay in Down East.
