Lopez Named SAL Pitcher of the Week

LHP starts with 5 perfect innings; finishes with 9 Ks over 7 shutout

HICKORY, NC- Hickory Crawdads LHP Frank Lopez has been named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for May 5-11th after his impressive start against the Augusta GreenJackets on May 10th.

Lopez, 20, threw 7 innings of shutout baseball, allowing only 2 hits and no walks. The 6'1", 175-pound southpaw was perfect through 5 innings before yielding a double to begin the 6th frame. Lopez fanned a season-high 9 batters and recorded at least one strikeout each inning.

Signed by the Texas Rangers as a non-drafted free agent in 2010, the Venezuelan native is currently 3-1 with a 1.38 ERA, the 4th lowest total in the SAL. Lopez has amassed 36 strikeouts and allowed only 6 walks during his 32.2 innings pitched. He currently leads all Crawdads starting pitchers in wins, ERA and strikeouts.

Lopez is the second Crawdad this season to win the SAL Pitcher of the Week Award, joining injured teammate Yohander Mendez who took home the honor for the week of April 14 - 20th.
