4/16 Game Recap The Down East Wood Ducks kicked off a six-game homestand against the Delmarva Shorebirds tonight. The Shorebirds stranded one baserunner, while the Woodies went three up and three down to end the first. The Shorebirds start the game with Estrada reaching on a fielding error by Figuereo

The Down East Wood Ducks kicked off a six-game homestand against the Delmarva Shorebirds tonight. The Shorebirds stranded one baserunner, while the Woodies went three up and three down to end the first. The Shorebirds start the game with Estrada reaching on a fielding error by Figuereo (3rd base), but then is left stranded as the next three batters go three up, three down. The Wood Ducks also stranded one in the first inning with Lopez reaching on a walk. Figuereo has another fielding error, which allows Acevedo to reach, but is left stranded. The Wood Ducks start the second inning with a walk (Cueva), followed by a fielding error by De Los Santos (3rd baseman) allowing Cueva to advance to 2nd. Torres is then walked, loading the bases for the Wood Ducks. A sacrifice fly by Specht to center field allowed Cueva to score, putting the Wood Ducks up 1-0 after 2. Shorebird strands two in the third, and the Woodies go three up, three down.

It was a quick fourth inning with both teams going three up, three down. Specht leads the Woodies off with a single in the fifth but is ultimately stranded. Delmarva strands two in the sixth, one reaching with a single to centerfield and the other walked. The DEWDS went three up, three down to end the 6th inning. The Shorebirds start strong in the 7th inning with a lead off double, but is followed by a fly out, ground out, and pop out. Just like the 6th inning, the Wood Ducks went three up, three down. The Wood Ducks have a pitching change in the 8th inning with Magdaleno replacing Sanchez. Magdaleno started off strong with a strike out, followed by a walk, then another strikeout, and a flyout. Mendez starts off the bottom of the 8th for the Wood Ducks by reaching on an error by the Shorebirds 2nd baseman (Estrada). Figuereo singles on a ground ball to left field, advancing Mendez to 2nd. Lopez hits into a force out, and then a Brock strikeout. Delmarva starts off the 9th inning with a single (Acevedo). Acevedo was able to advance to 2nd on a wild pitch. Hodo is walked, putting runners on 1st and 2nd. A sacrifice bunt by Urman to advance runners to 2nd and 3rd. The Woodies and Magdaleno were able to get out of the jam with a pop out and strikeout. Woodies win 1-0.

German earned the loss after pitching 4.0 innings with 0 hits, and 1 strikeout for Delmarva. Sanchez was awarded the win for the Wood Ducks (4.1 IP, 2 H and 4 K), and Magdaleno captured the save (2.0 IP, 1 H, 3 K). Delmarva leaves 11 runners on base followed by the Woodies leaving 6.

The Wood Ducks host the Delmarva Shorebirds for game 2 tomorrow at Historic Grainger Stadium located in Kinston, North Carolina. First pitch is set for 11:00 am. Gates open at 10:00 am.
