The Down East Wood Ducks had their first Education Day today, while hosting the Delmarva Shorebirds for game 2 of the series. The Shorebirds started the game with a quick three up, three down. The Woodies were able to get two on base via walks, but both baserunners were left stranded. Delmarva gets one runner on who was hit by pitch, but the next at bat, Tejada grounded into a double play. Cueva was walked in the bottom of the 2nd, followed by a double from Pollard, and a ground out by Blackmon to score Cueva. Pollard gets stranded on the bases, but the Woodies go up 1-0 after two innings. The Shorebirds and Woodies both leave one baserunner each stranded in the third.

The Shorebirds started off hot in the 4th with a lead off double, but the next three batters are unable to capitalize on the leadoff hit. Smith for the Wood Ducks leads off with a triple, followed by a Cueva single to score Smith and put the Woodies up 2-0. After two wild pitches by Salazar, Cueva is able to score. After four innings the Wood Ducks are up 3-0. Delmarva had a strong fifth inning with a couple of stolen bases, two singles, a walk and a double allowing them to tie the game at 3-3. The Woodies were not so lucky and went three up, three down to end the fifth. The Shorebirds and the Woodies all go three up, three down for a quick 6th inning.

Delmarva gets a lead off single to start the 7th, but it is followed by a double play and strikeout. The Wood Ducks had a flyout and two groundouts to end the 7th inning. The Shorebirds again get runners on base to start the inning with back-to-back singles, but they are unable to advance the runners any farther, leaving them stranded. Disla gets a walk in the bottom of the 8th, but is ultimately left stranded on 2nd base. Entering the 9th the game is tied 3-3. Delmarva gets a lead off double, and was able to steal third, but after two pop outs, and a strikeout the Woodies were able to get out of the jam. The Wood Ducks go three up, three down in the bottom of the 9th to send it to extra innings. Urman starts on 2nd for the Shorebirds. Urman is able to advance to 3rd on a wild pitch but is ultimately left stranded. Pollard starts on 2nd for the DEWDS. Figuereo singles on a ground ball to right field, scoring Pollard. The Wood Ducks win 4-3 in 10 innings.

Freeberger earned the loss after pitching 0.2 innings with 1 hit, and 1 strikeout for Delmarva. Savage was awarded the win for the Wood Ducks (1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 K). Delmarva leaves 8 runners on base followed by the Woodies leaving 6.

The Wood Ducks host the Delmarva Shorebirds for game 3 tomorrow at Historic Grainger Stadium located in Kinston, North Carolina. First pitch is set for 6:30 pm. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
