FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the Fort Myers Miracle, 14-8, on Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium.
Tied 8-8 in the ninth, the Cardinals loaded the bases with no one out on a walk and two hit batters. After Andy Young and J.B. Woodman knocked in runs to give the Cardinals a 10-8 lead, Shane Billings cleared the bases with a three-run double. Danny Hudzina finished the scoring with an RBI single.
Fort Myers fought back from an 8-3 deficit with four runs in the seventh and a run in the eigth. Alex Kirilloff and Caleb Hamilton each drove in runs on doubles before Taylor Grzelakowski knocked in two runs with a ground-rule double to center. Joe Cronin drove in his third run of the night in the eighth to tie the game. Cronin also pitched 0.2 scoreless innings.
Billings also homered for the Cardinals and drove in six while Dylan Carlson homered and drove in three.
Clark Beeker pitched four innings and allowed five runs on eight hits in collecting a no decision. Alex Robinson followed and pitched 0.2 innings. He allowed three runs. Hector Lujan bounced back after a rough outing on Sunday to toss 2.1 scoreless innings. Tom Hackimer (2-4) took the loss after allowing six runs in 1.1 innings of work.
Palm Beach starter Evan Kruczynski allowed three runs (two earned) in five innings of work in earning a no decision. Robbie Gordon (3-1) earned his third win of the season. He allowed two runs in 1.2 innings of work.
The series continues on Wednesday night in Fort Myers. Charlie Barnes (3-5, 3.00) takes the mound for Fort Myers. He'll square off against Casey Meisner (4-1, 3.14). First pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
