Contreras goes deep twice, but Miracle fall, 13-12

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Mark Contreras belted two home runs out of the number nine slot in the batting order and drove in five, but the Fort Myers Miracle fell to the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 13-12, on Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium.
Down 11-8 in the seventh, the Stone Crabs struck for five runs. With three runs already in, Robbie Tenerowicz broke an 11-11 tie with a two-run single to center that proved to be the difference in the game.
Jose Miranda brought the Miracle to within 13-12 with a solo home run in the ninth, but Ivan Pelaez retired the next three batters on strikes to preserve the win.
After falling behind 4-0 before their first turn at bat, the Miracle answered with four runs in the bottom of the first. Royce Lewis led off with a solo home run to left. Later in the inning, Travis Blankenhorn tied the game on a three-run triple to right.
The Stone Crabs plated two runs in the top of the second on a Brendan McKay home run to take a 6-4 lead. Taylor Grzelakowski cut the deficit to 6-5 in the bottom of the frame with an RBI ground out.
Now trailing 7-5 in the bottom of the third, Contreras blasted a three-run home run, his first of two long balls on the night, to give Fort Myers an 8-7 lead.
Charlotte tied the game, 8-8, in the fourth on a Tristan Gray double.
Contreras broke the tie in the fifth with his second home run of the night, a two-run shot, to push the Miracle back in front, 10-8.
Alex Kirilloff extended the lead to 11-8 with a solo home run in the sixth.
Clark Beeker started for the Miracle and lasted just 2.2 innings. He allowed seven runs on nine hits. Alex Robinson (1-3) suffered the loss after yielding four runs in 0.1 innings of work.
Kenny Rosenberg also lasted just 2.2 innings. The left-hander gave up eight runs on seven hits. Zack Mozingo (1-0) earned his first win with 3.1 innings of three-run baseball. Pelaez notched his fifth save of the year after allowing one run in three innings.
The five home runs in a game marks a season-high for the Miracle.
The loss drops the Miracle to 1.5 games back of the Stone Crabs for first place in the Florida State League South Division.
The four-game series continues on Wednesday night. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m.
