FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The announcement of TinCaps starter and five-time MLB All-Star Yu Darvish’s rehab assignment drew over 5,000 fans to Parkview Field, but the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers affiliate) showed no fear in the box against the veteran star in an 8-3 Fort Wayne loss on Wednesday night.
Wisconsin (42-23) responded to a scoreless first inning with an RBI off a soft grounder by Eduarqui Fernandez. The very next at-bat produced a monster three-run homer off the bat of Jesus Chrinos—a towering shot that became just the second ever to reach the roof of the 400 Club building past the center field wall, and the first since Fernando Tatís Jr. hit that spot in 2017.
In the fourth with one out on the board, Chrinos again sent multiple runners home with a two-RBI single—a hit that marked the end of Darvish’s seven-hit, three-strikeout appearance.
Fort Wayne (27-38) got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a Homer Bush Jr. (No. 8 Padres prospect) RBI off a fielding error, followed by another run-scoring hit courtesy of Jay Beshears (No. 27 Padres prospect).
The Timber Rattlers continued the scoring onslaught in the top of the seventh with another RBI single, thanks to Luis Lara (No. 7 Brewers prospect).
Timber Rattlers starter Tate Kuehner looked smooth dealing seven strikeouts and five scoreless innings before his resignation to the dugout in the sixth. Wisconsin scored again in the eighth after a Felix Valerio pop-up to center turned into an RBI triple due to a drop and collision between outfielders Bush Jr. and Joshua Mears. Both remained in the game.
The TinCaps put up the final run of the night in the eighth with a shot between first and second by Ethan Salas (No. 1 Padres prospect) to send a runner home. Salas finished his night with one hit and a walk in three at-bats.
