Jackson, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals will honor longtime WBBJ Forecaster Gary Pickens Saturday, July 29 as the team finishes off a series with the Mobile BayBears. The team, along with WBBJ, will be giving away special umbrellas the first 500 families through the gate that night, and Gary will throw out the first pitch!
Pickens is retiring after a 29-year career with WBBJ. The West Tennessee native will receive a proper sendoff from the Generals. The first 500 families in attendance will receive a "Because Gary Said So" umbrella, which features the likeness of his iconic mustache. He'll also get the night started by throwing out the first pitch.
This is in addition to the already-planned Shark Week Night presented by the Jackson Energy Authority! The Generals will wear special shark-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the Jackson Area Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (JACOA). One lucky fan in attendance will win a cruise, and everyone will be treated to postgame fireworks as well!
Shark Week Night is the last of four Fireworks Shows the Generals are hosting in the month of July. After the Saturday game, the Generals continue a ten-game homestand with five against division-rival Tennessee.
