Hobson helps Generals snap four-game losing streak Monday

MOBILE, ALA. (APRIL 28, 2014) - The Generals (12-13) avoided a series sweep Monday with a 4-2 win over the Mobile Baybears (15-10) in the final game of a five-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium. The win snaps Jackson's four-game losing skid, beginning with a 4-0 loss in Game one on Thursday.

The Generals grabbed the lead early and held momentum throughout the contest. John Hicks (1-3, RBI) singled to score Jabari Blash (1-3, RBI, R) in the second inning. Jack Marder (0-3, RBI) hit a sacrifice fly to score Dan Paolini (1-3, 2B, R, BB) two at-bats later as Jackson took a 2-0 lead.

Blash provided a sacrifice fly in the fifth to score Jamal Austin (0-4, RBI, R). Austin reached base on a missed catch error by pitcher RJ Hively in the seventh, scoring Ketel Marte (1-4, R, BB).

Starter Cam Hobson (3-1) earned the victory after going six shutout innings. LH Kyle Hunter allowed one run on a home run by Jordan Parraz in the seventh, but added a scoreless eighth.

The Baybears added another run in the ninth as Raywilly Gomez homered off of Stephen Kolscheen (2) before Kolscheen recorded the game's final three outs to record his second save of the season.

The Jackson Generals return to The Ballpark at Jackson to open their series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.. The Generals will host a special Faith Night featuring former Tennessee Volunteers football player Inky Johnson. LHP James Gillheeney (0-0, 3.60) starts for the Generals opposite RHP Carlos Contreras (1-1, 3.95) for Pensacola.
