Lookouts silence Generals Friday in 2-0 shutout

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (APRIL 4, 2014) - After an impressive offensive display on opening night , the Jackson Generals (1-1) were shutout, 2-0 by the Chattanooga Lookouts (1-1) in the second meeting of a 5-game series Friday at AT&T Field.

Following Thursday's 12-7, 11-inning game, both teams found themselves locked into a pitcher's duel that saw a combined eight hits in a game that lasted just one hour and fifty-nine minutes.

Duke von Schamann (1-0) held the Generals to just two hits in seven innings to earn his first win of the 2014 season. Von Schamann went 0-1 in two starts and four appearances against Jackson in 2013.

Stephen Landazuri (0-1), who made his AA debut for Jackson Friday, was saddled with the loss despite a solid pitching performance. Landazuri allowed just three hits and two un-earned runs in six innings.

The right-hander spent the majority of the 2013 season with Class A+ High Desert after making his first three appearances with Class A Clinton. Landazuri went 6-7 with a 4.63 ERA and 115 strikeouts in 116.2 IP for High Desert.

Scott Schebler (1-3) provided the difference making 2-run RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning to put Chattanooga ahead. The Lookouts bullpen secured von Schamann's victory with Juan Gonzalez in the pitching in the eighth inning and Jarret Martin earning his first save of the season in the ninth.

The Generals saw their five hits spread among several batters. Ketel Marte, Jabari Blash and Jamal Austin all extended their hitting streaks two games during the loss, each reaching base just once.

S- Jarret Martin: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 SO

Game three of the five-game series is Saturday at 6:15 p.m. CT at AT&T Field in Chattanooga. LHP Cam Hobson will make his 2014 season debut as he faces Lookouts left-hander Chris Reed. The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, jacksongeneralsbaseball.com and TuneIn Radio.

The Generals will host their annual FanFest at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8th, which will prelude the home opener on Thursday, April 9th at 7:05 p.m. against the Mississippi Braves (ATL).
