Stars stymie Generals in series opener Monday night

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. (MAY 5, 2014) - The Generals (14-17) dropped their fourth straight on Monday night in the opener of the five-game series at Huntsville (20-11), 2-0. The loss sent the Generals to three games below .500 for the first time this season. The Generals finished the night 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position and were blanked for the fourth time.

Huntsville starter Tyler Cravy (5-1, 2.08) went six innings and picked up his Southern League leading fifth win of the year. He stymied the Generals bats, giving up just three hits and struck out five on the night.

It took five innings for the first run to cross the plate on Monday. With two outs, and two on, Adam Weisenburger doubled home Mitch Haniger and Shawn Zarraga to give the Stars a 2-0 lead.

James Gillheeney (1-0, 1.29) posted three shutout innings on two hits. He left after three innings and was replaced by Kyle Hunter (0-1, 2.93). Hunter gave up the two Huntsville runs and suffered his first loss of the season.

David Goforth came in to pick up his league-leading seventh save of the season and finish off the 2-0 win.

In the game, SS Ketel Marte finished 2-for-4 Monday and has now 10 multi-hit games and is riding his third seven-game hitting streak of the season.

The teams will be back in action again Tuesday at 6:30 pm in Huntsville. Joshi Ogando (0-2, 6.97) will go for the Generals and the Stars will send out Drew Gagnon (2-1, 3.21).
