Fresno splits series at Albuquerque with a 15-14 victory

Tyler White has 10th straight multi-hit game with a 5-hit, 6-RBI night

The Fresno Tacos (33-35) defeated the Albuquerque Green Chile Cheeseburgers (33-34) Friday night by a score of 15-14 in the series finale at Isotopes Park, the first ever Tacos road game. Fresno's 15 runs and 20 hits are a new 2017 club-high. The two clubs combined for nine home runs, 29 runs and 42 hits, all season-highs for Fresno. With five hits and six RBI in the contest, Tyler White (5-for-6) is on a 10-game hit streak with multiple hits in each game. He is batting .565 (26-for-46) in that span with five homers, eight doubles, 18 RBI and 14 runs scored.
Jon Kemmer (3-for-4) led off the game for the Tacos with a solo home run to left field, his eighth of the season and second in consecutive games, to take a 1-0 lead. Albuquerque tied the contest 1-1 in the bottom of the first with a Ryan McMahon (5-for-6) RBI double that scored Rosell Herrera (4-for-6) who singled to get on.
Albuquerque took a 4-1 lead in the third and extended their lead to 6-1 after the fifth. In the third, McMahon hit his fourth homer of the season. The two-run shot scored Daniel Castro (3-for-5) who singled to get on. Noel Cuevas (single, 3-for-5) then scored on a Dustin Garneau RBI double. In the fifth, Mike Tauchman (2-for-6) knocked a RBI triple and Cuevas drove in a run with a base hit.
A 10-batter, six-run sixth for the Tacos gave them a 7-6 lead over Albuquerque. Colin Moran (3-for-6) started the inning with a single and scored on an A.J. Reed sacrifice fly. Kemmer then drove in Juan Centeno (single, 3-for-5) with a base hit, followed by a two-run double by White. Preston Tucker (2-for-6) concluded the scoring in the inning with a two-run home run to right center, his 12th homer of the season. McMahon tied the game for Albuquerque in the home half of the sixth with another RBI double that scored Herrera to make the score 7-7.
Fresno had an 11-batter, three-homer seventh to regain the lead, 14-7. It's the second time in back-to-back contests that Fresno has hit three home runs in an inning. Reid Brignac hit his third jack in just two games with a two-run shot to left, his seventh of the season. White followed with a home run in consecutive games as well with a three-run bomb to left for his ninth long ball of 2017. Moran finished off the inning with a two-run homer to right, his 14th of the season. The seven runs in the inning were the most for Fresno this season, previously having scored six runs in an inning on three occasions. Albuquerque cut Fresno's lead to 14-9 after the stretch. Tachman singled to get on before Cuevas hit a two-run home run to left center, his 10th homer of the season.
The Tacos tacked on another run in the eighth to take a 15-9 lead. White knocked a RBI double to score Kemmer who walked to get on. It was White's fifth hit and second double of the game, and also his sixth RBI. The five hits are a personal season-high for White, joining Kemmer and Tony Kemp with the only other five-hit games for Fresno this season. The six RBI are a personal and club-high in 2017. This was also the fourth time Kemmer scored in the game, a new individual club-high this season.
McMahon continued his dominance over Fresno in the ninth for Albuquerque with a three-run home run to center, his second of the game and fifth of the season. It was his fifth hit and seventh RBI of the night. Cristhian Adames (2-for-5) also went yard, a two-run shot to left, his third of the season. The home runs made the final score 15-14.
Tacos starter Trent Thornton (4-2) tossed six innings and allowed seven runs on 12 hits. He did not walk a batter and had one punch-out in the win. Reliever Brendan McCurry picked up his first save of the season by getting the final out in the ninth. For Albuquerque, starter Sam Howard allowed five runs on 10 hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 5.2 IP. Reliever Shane Carle (0-3) suffered the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits through two thirds of an inning. He walked one and struck out two.
Fresno returns home for a season-long 12-game homestand that starts with four against El Paso on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Chuckchansi Park. Probable starters are RHP Tyrell Jenkins (4-7, 7.46) for the Chihuahuas against Grizzlies RHP Mike Hauschild (3-1, 5.73).
