Bowie, MD- The Baysox scored three runs in the ninth inning to come from behind and defeat the Yard Goats 6-5 on Saturday night at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. Former number one pick Adley Rutschman cranked a two-run homer to tie the game, and Zach Watson’s infield single scored Patrick Dorian as the Baysox walked off Hartford. The Yard Goats led 4-0 in the second inning and 5-3 going to the ninth.
The Yard Goats scored four runs over the first two innings off top pitching prospect Grayson Rodriguez. Sean Bouchard belted a solo home run in the first inning and Jameson Hannah ripped a three-run double down the left field line, giving Hartford a 4-0 lead. Rodriguez was pulled from the game in the second inning.
Hartford starter Nick Bush was reached for a run in the second inning on two singles and two walks. The lefty had six strikeouts over the first three innings but allowed another run in the fourth on Greg Cullen’s RBI single to make it 4-2. Bush retired the leadoff hitter in the fifth but then allowed a double and a walk and was removed from the game with two outs. Zach Matson came in and got a strikeout to end the inning.
Bowie made it a 4-3 game with a solo homer by Zach Watson in the sixth off Matson. Relievers Yohan Abar and Julian Fernandez worked scoreless through the seventh and eighth innings. Harford added a run on Elehuris Montero’s sacrifice fly and the Yard Goat led 5-3 going to the ninth inning. Greg Cullen led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk, and Adley Rutschman homered to left field and tied the game at 5-5. The Baysox got runners at the corners with two walks and a fielder’s choice and Zach Watson ended it with an infield single to third base, scoring Patrick Dorrian.
The Yard Goats conclude the six-game road trip on Sunday afternoon (1:35 PM) in Bowie, Maryland against the Baltimore Orioles affiliate, the Bowie Baysox.
