Big Inning for Baysox Dooms Yard Goats in Loss
Bowie, MD- The Bowie Baysox scored seven runs in the second inning en-route to a 7-2 win against the Hartford Yard Goats on Tuesday night at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. The rally included five hits, including a three-run home run by Yunsniel Diaz off Hartford starter Matt Whitehouse, who was tagged with the loss in his Yard Goats debut. Bowie EL All-Star selection Zac Lowther pitched six innings to record his 8^th win. Manny Melendez had a pair of hits for the Yard Goats, including an RBI double and scored a run. Hartford and Bowie will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow night as the Yard Goats will try for consecutive series wins.     
The Baysox began the rally with a one out walk. Sharon, Connecticut native Willy Yahn singled and Preston Palmeiro, son of former MLB star Rafael Palmeiro, followed with an RBI single to make it 1-0. After an infield error allowing Yahn to score, Ryan McKenna cracked an RBI hit bringing in Palmero to make it 3-0. Then came the big blow. Yusneil Diaz smashed a three-run homer over the left field fence to make it 6-0 Baysox and ended the night for Whitehouse.
The Yard Goats bullpen was solid, and after giving up a run as part of the seven-run second inning, retired the next 15 batters, including the side in order from the third through seventh innings. Alexander Guillen, Tate Scioneaux and Rayan González limited Bowie to just two baserunners over the final six innings.
Bowie starter Zac Lowther was impressive and allowed just two runs over six innings. He retired the first nine Yard Goats batters before Manny Melendez led off the fourth inning with a single. Melendez scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Nevin to make it a 7-1 game in the fourth. The Yard Goats added another run in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Melendez.  
 
The Yard Goats and Baysox wrap up the three-game series on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm in Maryland. RHP Heath Holder will start for the Yard Goats while LHP Alex Wells will pitch for Bowie. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and 100.9 FM and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
