Fisher Cats win over Yard Goats anything but a breeze

May 10, 2017

HARTFORD- Wednesday afternoon's New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4-3 victory over the Hartford Yard Goats turned out to be anything but a breeze, despite the visitors' striking out sixteen Yard Goats to salvage the final game of a three-game series at Dunkin' Donuts Park.

The Yard Goats made it a nail biter in the ninth inning, when Drew Weeks slugged a two-run homer to left-field and extended his hitting streak to six games. However, left-handed reliever Tim Mayza, whose sister plays basketball for the University of Hartford women's team, settled down to strike out the next two batters and nail down his second save, while snapping Hartford's four-game winning streak.
Ashley Graeter paced the Yard Goats attack with two hits and a run scored. Meanwhile, Sam Howard turned in his second straight quality start. The left-hander allowed just two runs -- one unearned -- and only three hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out a season-high eight batters.
The Yard Goats open a four-game series at Dunkin' Donuts Park Thursday night at 7:05 against the Erie Seawolves, the Detroit Tigers affiliate. RH Ryan Castellani will pitch for the Yard Goats against RH A.J. Ladwig. The game can be heard on 1410 AM WPOP and on newsradio1410.iheart.com.
