Hartford Yard Goats Release Logo and Colors

Bat-Chewing Billy Goat is New Face of the Hartford Franchise
July 8, 2015

HARTFORD, Conn - The Hartford Yard Goats, the Double-A Eastern League affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, unveiled their identity at the XL Center on Wednesday afternoon in downtown Hartford. Royal Blue and Kelly Green make up the club's new official colors, paying tribute to Hartford's rich sports history.

The Yard Goat chewing a broken baseball bat is the club's primary logo. The iconic font used in the lettering is to pay homage to the former New York/New Haven/Hartford Railroad Company.

The definition of a Yard Goat is a hardworking locomotive that moves trains from track to track, keeping the rail yard moving. A Minor League Baseball player is like that Yard Goat, working hard in his Minor League City to keep his Major League affiliate on track.

"This is an extremely exciting day for our franchise as we unveil our new identity," Yard Goats General Manager Tim Restall said. "Yard Goats Baseball is all about family entertainment and having fun at Dunkin' Donuts Park and we feel that this logo represents just that."

The team name was selected after more than 35,000 votes suggested almost 6,000 unique names in amonth-long, name-the-team contest.

The Yard Goats look was created by Brandiose, a marketing firm based in San Diego, CA. Brandiose has designed some of the most popular minor league logos including the El Paso Chihuahuas, RichmondFlying Squirrels, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs and America's oldest baseball club, the Cincinnati Reds. The development process began back in February when Brandiose met in the Capital City with fans, staff and community members to learn about the stories, history and personality of Hartford.
