Hartford, CT- Yard Goats starter Carson Palmquist hurled five scoreless innings and was backed by a four-hit, four RBI game from Zac Veen, as the Hartford Yard Goats shutout the Bowie Baysox 9-0 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Dunkin’ Park. The Baysox won the first game of the twinbill by the score of 5-4. Palmquist and relievers Alec Barger and Seth Halvorsen combined for 11 strikeouts as Hartford earned its third shutout win of the season. Palmquist has not allowed a run in 10 innings this season and is now 2-0.

The Yard Goats scored the first run with two out in the bottom of the first when Zach Kokoska hit his first home run of the year, a line drive shot to left field.

The third inning saw the Yard Goats add to their lead following a Sterlin Thompson triple. Zac Veen belted a two-run homer to left to make the score 3-0.

The Yard Goats added on in the fourth inning. Bladmir Restituyo and Ryan Ritter each had singles and Nic Kent singled to left field to give the Yard Goats a 5-0 lead. An error allowed Kent to reach third. Kent would score off a wild pitch on the ensuing at bat to push the lead to six.

The Baysox would threaten in the fifth inning as after a Connor Pavolony fly out, Palmquist walked Donta Williams and Collin Burns to put runners on first and second. Palmquist found his rhythm and struck out Anthony Servideo and Dylan Beavers to end the inning.

The Yard Goats would add some insurance in the sixth inning as after a Sterling Thompson single and Benny Montgomery double, Zach Veen tripled to center which drove Thompson and Montgomery home. Veen would then score on a Braxton Fulford sacrifice fly which made the score 9-0.

Bowie took the first game of the doubleheader 5-4. Silas Ardoin cracked an RBI double in the seventh inning to break the 4-4 tie and give the Baysox the lead.

The Baysox got on the board in the second with two men on and two outs Frederick Bencosme hit a home run to right center field to put the Baysox up 3-0.

In the bottom of the second, The Yard Goats loaded the bases after a Warming Bernabel flyout, as Zac Veen walked, Bladmir Restituyo singled, and Ryan Ritter was hit by a pitch. Following an A.J. Lewis pop out and the Baysox made a costly error on an Adael Amador infield fly which allowed Veen to score from third base and Restituyo to score from second base to make the score 3-2.

The Yard Goats took the lead in the bottom of the third. Sterlin Thompson led off the inning with a walk and then Benny Montgomery hit a ground rule double. Yanquiel Fernandez hit a sacrifice fly to score Thompson from third base. Bernabel stepped to the plate and gave the Yard Goats a 4-3 lead with a single into left field to drive in Montgomery.

Yard Goats reliever Angel Chivilli entered in the fourth inning to relieve starter Connor Van Scoyoc and pitched a scoreless fifth inning. Jaden Hill entered the game for Chivilli in the sixth inning

The Yard Goats will conclude their series against the Bowie Baysox on Sunday, 1:10 p.m. at Dunkin Park. RHP Jarrod Cande will get the start for the Yard Goats and Trace Bright will go for the Baysox. The game will be broadcast on the free audacy app and streamed on MiLB TV.
