Sea Dogs Sink Yard Goats on Rainy Night in Portland

Portland, Maine- The Sea Dogs used a four-run second inning to get a jump on the Yard Goats, and defeated Hartford 8-3 on Thursday evening at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. Sea Dogs outfielder Devlin Granberg had three hits, including a double, triple, home run, and drove in three runs on a chilly and rainy night in Southern Maine. Portland starter Andrew Politi worked five innings and allowed two runs with six strikeouts to earn the win. Elehuris Montero had a pair of hits for the Yard Goats.

The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the first inning off Sea Dogs starter Andrew Politi. Matt Hearn led off the game with a rocket double to left field and advanced to third on an infield grounder. Then, Taylor Snyder hit a hard grounder to third, scoring Hearn to give Hartford a 1-0 lead. It was Snyder’s team leading 40th RBI this season.

The Sea Dogs answered with a four-run second inning off Yard Goats starter Karl Kauffmann. The Red Sox affiliate started their one-out rally with three straight hits, highlighted by a two-RBI triple by Devlin Granberg which gave Portland a 2-1 lead. Later in the inning, Granberg scored on an error, and Jeisson Rosario’s sac fly made it 4-1 Sea Dogs after two innings.

The Yard Goats got one back in the third inning to make it 4-2. Max George led off the inning with a double and Jose Gomez followed with an RBI single. However, Politi struck out the next three batters and retired the side in order over the next two frames.

Meanwhile, the Sea Dogs continue to add on. Grant Williams run-scoring single in the fourth made it 5-2, Joey Meneses RBI double in the fifth made it 6-2, and Jeisson Rosario’s RBI groundout gave Portland a 7-2 lead. The Yard Goats scored their final run on an RBI triple by Sean Bouchard in the eighth inning. It was Bouchard’s 29th extra base hit.

The Yard Goats continue a six-game road trip against the Portland Sea Dogs on Friday night (6:00 PM) at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 FM and newsradio1410.iheart.com. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin’ Donuts Park on Tuesday, July 13th (7:05 PM) and will start a six-game homestand against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
