Yard Goats Drop Series Opener to Flying Squirrels

Manchester, NH- The Hartford Yard Goats (37-31) were defeated by the Richmond Flying Squirrels (27-43) by the score of 11-3 on Tuesday evening at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire. David Dahl had two hits and an RBI for the Yard Goats who have lost three in a row. Richmond starter Dan Slania pitched into the seventh inning and was helped by a pair of 2-run home runs as part of a 19-hit attack for the Flying Squirrels who ended a four game losing skid.         

The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the first inning off Richmond starter Dan Slania. David Dahl ripped a rocket double and later scored on a fielder's choice ground ball by Dillon Thomas, making it 1-0 Hartford. 

However, the Flying Squirrels scored five unearned runs off Yard Goats starter Sam Howard in the third inning. Two throwing errors led to a five run frame. The rally was capped by a 2-run homer by Hunter Cole and a 2-run homer by Tyler Horan. Richmond had a 5-1 lead after three innings.

The Flying Squirrels added three more runs in the fourth inning and chased Howard from the game. An infield single by Darren Ford and double by Ali Castillo would set up the rally for the second straight inning. Christian Arroyo followed with an RBI single, making it 6-1 Richmond. Ryder Jones' sacrifice fly made it 7-1 and Myles Schroder finished the uprising with a run scoring single and it was 8-1 in the fourth inning.

The Yard Goats got a run back in the seventh inning on a two-out RBI single by David Dahl, scoring Ashley Graeter and making it 9-2. Richmond scored a pair of runs the 9th inning and Hartford got a run back in the bottom of the inning on Zach Osborne's RBI single scoring Michael Benjamin.              

The Yard Goats and Flying Squirrels will play again on Wednesday night in Manchester (5:05 PM). Zach Jemiola will start for Hartford while Mage Gage will pitch for Richmond. The game will be broadcast live on News Radio 1410 WPOP.
