Somerset, NJ- The Hartford Yard Goats won their third consecutive game, and defeated the Somerset Patriots by the score of 5-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening in Somerset, New Jersey. Hartford starter Andrew Quezada and three relievers limited Somerset to just one run on six hits in the first game of a six-game series against the New York Yankees affiliate. Benny Montgomery, the Eastern League Player of the Week, gave the Yard Goats some breathing room with a bases loaded two-run single in the fifth inning. Montgomery also extended his hit-streak to six games. Zac Veen and Ryan Ritter each had a pair of hits and scored a run. Juan Mejia, who is on the Rockies 40-man MLB roster struck out the side in the ninth inning.

The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the first inning off Somerset starter Brock Selvidge. Adael Amador led off the game with an infield single, stole second and third base and scored on a throwing error by the catcher Agustin Ramirez to make it 1-0 Hartford. The Yard Goats would go on to steal six bases in the contest.

Hartford added a run in the third inning as Sterlin Thompson drove home Bladimir Restituyo with a two-out triple to center field, giving the Yard Goats a 2-0 edge.

Yard Goats starter Andrew Quezada escaped a second and third situation with two outs in the second inning, and only allowed two hits with three strikeouts over the first three innings. The Patriots scratched for a run with back-to-back extra base hits with two outs in the fourth inning to make it 2-1, when JC Escarra’s double scored Elijiah Dunham.

Hartford added a pair of runs in the fifth inning to make it 4-1. Benny Mongomery cracked a two-out single to right field, scoring Ryan Ritter and Bladimir Restituyo. The Yard Goats made it 5-1 with an RBI grounder by Ritter in the sixth inning, which scored Zac Veen after his single and two stolen bases.

Relievers Austin Kitchen, Bryce McGowan, and Juan Mejia combined to fire four scoreless innings, allowing just two singles, one walk and seven strikeouts.

The Yard Goats continue the series against the Somerset Patriots on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM. LHP Mason Albright will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Zach Messinger will pitch for the Patriots.
