Trenton, NJ- The Hartford Yard Goats defeated the Trenton Thunder by the score of 7-3 on Wednesday night at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, New Jersey. Yard Goats third baseman Josh Fuentes broke a 2-2 tie with a three run home run in the sixth inning and Konner Wade retired all nine batters faced in three perfect innings in relief for the win. It was the second game of a two city six game road trip for Hartford. Correlle Prime had three hits for the Yard Goats who will try to win their third consecutive series with the rubber game tomorrow night. Trenton is in first place in the Eastern League's Eastern Division and has the best record in the league at 36-21. Hartford has won 7 of its last ten games.
The Thunder blasted a pair of solo home runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead off Yard Goats starter Luis Niebla. Jake Cave began the frame with homer to left and Mike Ford, a former star at Princeton, connected on his fourth home run of the season to make it 2-0.
However, the Yard Goats tied the game with two runs in the fourth inning. Drew Weeks and Dillon Thomas began the inning with walks and moved to second and third on a wild pitch by Thunder starter Justus Sheffield. Correlle Prime ripped a single scoring Weeks and Josh Fuentes followed with an RBI single scoring Thomas to tie the game at 2-2.
In the sixth inning Josh Fuentes cranked a 3-run homer to give the Yard Goats a 5-2 lead. It was his fourth homer of the season, sailing over the fence in left centerfield. Dillon Thomas led off the sixth inning with a walk and Correlle Prime singled, setting the table for the blast.
Konner Wade came in for Hartford in the fifth inning and retired the side in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, with two strikeouts. Hartford pitching retired 14 consecutive Thunder batters from the third to the seventh innings before a leadoff single in the eighth.
Hartford added an insurance run in the seventh inning on Dillon Thomas' RBI single, scoring Omar Carrizales and making it 6-2. The Yard Goats made it 7-2 on a balk charged to reliever Caleb Cashow. Trenton scored the final run of the game on a single by Mike Ford against Matt Pierpont in the eighth inning.
