Hops Drop Last Game of Everett Series
Everett, WA --- On a night that saw more rain than runs, the Hillsboro Hops dropped their fourth and final game of the five-game series against the Everett Aquasox, a 3-2 defeat on Monday evening at Everett Memorial Stadium.
After finding themselves in a 2-1 hole after the rain delay in the fourth inning, the Hops tied the game on a Wagner Mateo fielder's choice that scored Yogey Perez-Ramos. The score would remain tied at two until the sixth inning when Hops' reliever Chase Stevens, who would get his first loss of the season, walked in the would-be game-winning run.
Hops starter Jonathan Pulley threw three-and-a-third innings allowing three hits, two runs and one walk while striking out two in a no decision.
Hops outfielder Zach Esquerra continues to tear the cover off of the ball, going 2-for-4. Esquerra has hit safely in nine of his last ten games played, and is leading the team in batting average (.378), hits (14), doubles (3) and RBIs (10).
Despite outscoring opponents by six runs this season, the Hops' record sits at 3-8, worst in the Northwest League. With the loss tonight, the Hops' record in one run games is now 1-5, also the worst in the Northwest League.
The Hops start their three game series against Boise tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 PM, with pregame airtime at 5:45 on Fox Sports Radio 620 AM.
