CORPUS CHRISTI - For generations, ice cold raspas have been a favorite sweet treat for South Texans on hot summer days. A delicacy of the region, raspas stands with unique flavors and toppings can be found throughout Corpus Christi.
The Hooks will honor this local Hispanic tradition from July 5-7 at Whataburger Field, as the team transforms into the Corpus Christi Raspas. Whataburger Field becomes headquarters to the "unofficial" raspas capital of the world, as Corpus Christi is the former home to the world record for largest snow cone.

The team will don special edition red Raspas jerseys with multi-colored lettering, reflecting the myriad of flavors served at local raspas stands. The official cap of the Raspas will feature a colorful snow cone packed tightly into a paper cup. Game-used caps and jerseys will be auctioned at the conclusion of the season.
Tejano music, face painters, Mexican candy stations, Spanish public address announcing, appearances from local mariachi bands, raspas inspired in-game contests will highlight the in-ballpark experience.
"This celebration is a terrific way to honor the Hispanic culture in the Coastal Bend and our team's diverse fanbase," Hooks vice president of sales and marketing Andy Steavens said. "The tradition of raspas is one of the most fun and unique aspects of South Texas. We're truly going to transform our team's look and in-stadium experience during these games. It'll be a weekend to remember."
Hook, Line, & Sinker will feature plenty of Raspas merchandise: fitted/adjustable hats, graphic t-shirts, replica jerseys, and various novelty items such as pins, koozies, and magnets.
The transformation is part of Minor League Baseball's inaugural "Copa de la Diversión," or "Fun Cup" series during the 2018 season. The initiative aims to celebrate diversity and honor local U.S. Hispanic/Latino communities across the nation.
33 MiLB teams are creating their own culturally-relevant on-field personas throughout the course of the season. Click here to read more about this initiative.
The Hooks begin the 2018 home schedule on April 12 against Northwest Arkansas at Whataburger Field. Please call (361) 561-HOOK or visit cchooks.comfor more information about tickets.
